Alternet Articles on the Environment - and Citizen Suggestions for a Better World

A few weeks ago we posted a blog post on two major policy issues that are up for CHANGE right now.  CLICK HERE to link to our post on HEALTHCARE REFORM.

This current blog post first contains citizen suggestions on how we can lower carbon emissions, followed by a series of articles on the environment from AlterNet.org

CLICK HERE to connect to your Congressperson and let them know you want our government to REALLY make some progress with regard to our health and the environment!!

Enjoy!!

There are several ways to harness our natural resources and convert it to energy.  For example, we can capture the energy of moving air and convert this to electricity.  Other methods include using the sun's rays to power a home or collecting rainwater to water our gardens.

Reducing green gas emissions- Climate change is a priory for Barack Obama's energy reform.    Our artic poles are melting  eventually leading to the the extinction of amazing animals  such as the iconic polar bear.   The Arctic winter was 1.8 to 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than average this year. The ice in the Artic is important since it reflects the rays of the sun and prevents the warming of oceans whcih can cause a whole chain of collapsing ecosystems in our food chain.
For this reason pushing for  talks with federal agencies again to consult with government wildlife experts is necessary before taking actions that could have an impact on threatened or endangered species.
Another problem not too far int he distance is the threaten to our very basic resource needed for surivial- water.  Climate change is increasing global droughts and  rivers are  running dry.  But even if we resort to desalinaztion of salt water, it is too costly.  It requires huge amounts of fossil fuels to convert it to fresh water.  Now this will temporaily alleviate collapsing water issues but wont create a long term solution.

Buying quality organic products is the initial move to a healthy, natural, green lifestyle that can bring a good feeling not only to ourselves but as to our environment as well.

I totally concur! I have been trying to eat organic, although it is often hard to find sustainably grown foods (especially in Brazil, where I am) and my body feels SO much better than before. Organic, non-pesticide, non-genetically modified, sustainably grown food is REAL food - it tastes like real food, has more nutrients, and the food itself is probably spiritually happier. I foresee a world where the is no more agro-industry, and the money we subsidize agro-industry with can instead be invested in building community gardens so that people can reconnect with the Earth, feed themselves, know what they eat, eat more home grown, natural veggies...i think it would cut down on pollution AND inner-city crime! we would have kids growing greens and connecting with the community and the Earth instead of gang-banging!! Can you imagine such a world??

Thanks for your comment and for a link to your site! We are trying to revamp Obama IS America! to include a really good section promoting people's websites. We will definitely link to you when we do.

Have a great Thursday!

Oh, well I was commenting on food only. Your site is more product oriented. Well, that rocks! I am posting your 'About Us' here for our other readers to see, including a link to your site:

http://3rdwinc.com/Third Wave Matrix, Inc. began in 2006 with a goal of excellence in customer service.

We have expanded that goal to include people and environmentally friendly methodologies as guiding principles.

We believe in one simple rule for our customers, employees, and anyone else. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

To that end, we have structured our business in the "greenest" of ways. Everyone that works for Third Wave Matrix does so from their own home - in their own hours.

All of our products are centralized at the point of manufacture or warehouse (for used goods) and shipped out only when ordered. This helps reduce the amount of transit a product goes through because it ships once - from the warehouse or manufacturer directly to you, our customer.

In 2009, we will be launching a new line that will encompass only green, socially conscious, and environmentally friendly products. We hope you will enjoy them.
